Our Origins

Osteria dei Càtari was founded in 1998 in an old farmhouse in the ancient village of Monforte d’Alba, located in Vicolo Solferino 4, a narrow and short alley that flows into the old but now renovated Piazzale del Ghetto.

The intense restoration work began in the spring of 1997. The choice of workers and the constant presence of the creator Cavallo Alessandro allowed a fine and careful selection of the building materials purchased and recovered.

The farmhouse, consisting of five rooms and inhabited by two families until about 1950, was completely gutted and rebuilt under the supervision of a surveyor.
Once the structure with a welcoming and refined architectural design was created, the place was completed with imagination and creativity: colors, paintings, and furnishing objects detail it, making it unique.

Of great importance in this creative aspect is the work of Polish painter Gregor Durlik, who, thanks to his artistic influences (characters by Gauguin and Renoir can be seen in the paintings on the walls), makes the place even more extravagant and characteristic: the trompe l’oeil in the main room, representing a “strange” pressing, is an example.
